Decades Fortnight is in Full Swing

26th February 2022

This week BNIS classrooms have come to life with artefacts from bygone eras, can you believe that even the noughties were over a decade ago! The artefacts range from mysterious audio tapes to high fashion pieces passed down through BNIS families. They have all provided much discussion and formed a stimulus for fascinating learning moments. Whilst Year 7 were learning about the death of King George VI and re-tracing the steps of Princess Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip during their Kenya tour of 1952, they were able to read a newspaper published at the time. It was incredible for the children to have this tangible source in their hands and to read first hand how it was reported at the time. The large orange broadsheet is a far cry from the snippets of news we are used to reading on phone screens today. Thank you to all those who have kindly lent or sourced us items and helped us to really be able to feel the past.

Music has also been a focus this week and classes are busy learning songs and dances from their decade. We have already witnessed some phenomenal singing to Step’s Tragedy in Year 2 and Year 6 have been taking their dance moves to Hound Dog very seriously. The whole school is looking forward to performing to parents during our Decades Finale Day.
